Product Name: Coin 5 Swiss francs Basel – 1879
Description :
The commemorative coin of 5 Swiss francs issued in 1879 celebrates the Federal shooting from this year to Basel. Struck in 900 ‰ silver, original it weighs 25 grams and measure 37 mm in diameter. Round in shape, and is now demonetized.
Obverse: The coin depicts a Swiss guard standing on a rock, illuminated by rays of sunlight, in traditional costume, leaning on his long sword. The German inscription "DAS SCHWERT ZUR HAND IN HERZEN GOTT. SO WIRD D. SCHWEIZER NIE Z. SPOTT" (With sword in hand and God in heart, Switzerland will never be dishonored) surrounds the scene. The engraver's signature, Edouard Durussel, is visible below.
Reverse: The reverse features a griffin with outstretched wings holding a shield bearing the coat of arms of Basel. Around this scene, the coats of arms of the Swiss cantons are arranged in a circle. The inscription "EIDG. SCHÜTZENFEST IN BASEL 1879" (Federal Shooting Festival in Basel 1879) appears around the edge, with the nominal value "5 Fr" at the bottom. This side was also engraved by Edouard Durussel.
Slice : The edge of the coin is striated.
