Description :
The commemorative coin of 5 Swiss francs issued in 1874 celebrates the Federal shooting from this year to St. Gallen. Struck in 90 0 ‰ silver, original it weighs 25 grams and measure 37 mm in diameter. Round in shape, it was demonetized on January 31, 1934.
Obverse: The coin features a lictor's fasces in the centre of a shield, resting on a wreath of oak and laurel branches, with two crossed rifles. The whole is surmounted by the radiant Helvetic cross. In the background, a village scene with a marching crowd is visible. The German inscription "EIDGENÖSS.SCHÜZENFEST.IN.ST.GALLEN." appears at the top, with the date "1874" at the bottom. The engraver of this side is Antoine Bovy.
Reverse: Under a radiant sun, a bearded soldier in armour is depicted kneeling, brandishing a sword in his right hand pointing towards the sky, and holding a banner with the Swiss flag in his left hand. His helmet rests at his feet. In the background, a landscape with soldiers accompanying him is visible. The inscriptions "1474 A 1476" and "A.BOVY FY." are present, indicating the dates of the Burgundian Wars and the name of the engraver, Antoine Bovy.
Slice : The edge of the coin is striated.
